My Students

I teach at a STEM-focused elementary school. My students are creative, inquisitive, and compassionate second graders. They are learning about community, responsibility, and collaboration in a hands-on STEM classroom. I am inspired by their love for learning and their willingness to push through the tough stuff.

My students are doers, leaders, and our future.

They thrive in an environment that challenges their minds to think outside the box. My students are storytellers. We have a class blog and they post regularly. They critique books, share travel experiences, and talk about their daily life. They also, love to learn about the world around them, social justice, and human interactions. My students love to look at the map and dream of faraway places. They love to learn about how people around the world live and to create solutions to the everyday problems that children face. This month they engineered solutions to coastal erosion caused by tsunamis. They love to talk through problems and share their ideas.

However, most of all they love to read. My students love to get lost in a story.

My Project

These multi-level book sets will allow my students to pick just right books to read with their peers in their book club. Groups of six kids with similar reading ability and interests will go to a "book" restaurant. The restaurant is just our classroom set up with tablecloths, candles, and fancy "book" menus. Each group will read the menu, sample the books, and then order their favorite. With these book sets, each group will find their just right book and fall in love with reading. Once the book clubs finish their books they blog about the stories on our Kidblog site. Super fun reading adventure!
