Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I currently teach First grade in a low-income area in the South Bronx. In the classroom, my students are surrounded by books. We are constantly reading many stories in class. I would love to encourage them to read more at home. Many of my students do not have books to read at home on their individual reading level, so I let them borrow books from the classroom. They currently use zip lock bags but they are not too sturdy. My students would benefit greatly by having individual book pouches to take home. These pouches are very sturdy and would help the students keep their books neat and together in one place. My students are also responsible to read a book every night to their parent. I would like for each student to keep a daily reading log for these books. Not only would the log keep track of the books they've read, but they would be able to write about the book. My students love to read, either by themselves or with a partner. I would like to create a reading area, where they could go and read. I would like some bean bags to place in the library area. Your help will ensure my students to continue their love of reading, not only in the classroom but also at home.
