The best way to describe my students is: young, high energy, and excited about school. When they enter school this is their first experience, they are kindergartners. My class is made up of boys and girls, all from different backgrounds and cultures. From the first day that they enter the classroom, they remind me of "sponges," with the way they absorb everything they are exposed to. The students are enthusiastic about learning, curious about all subjects, and have an overwhelming joy for coming to school everyday.
My Project
It is essential for a teacher to use a variety of techniques to expose students to literacy. A listening center is a great literacy experience, where a group of children can enjoy a book read out loud, as well as have some quiet time. A listening center gives the students the opportunity to listen to a story multiple times, exposes them to new vocabulary and sentence structure, and creates an enjoyment of listening to stories. Some students with disabilities benefit from hearing the story numerous times. However, one of the problems with a traditional listening center is the headphones keep getting tangled up to the point of being unusable. The new wireless headphones will prevent this from happening, and enhance the experience for the students. The variety of books on CD will give the students choices on the type of books they would like to listen to, and expose them to a variety of quality literature.
Kindergarten students enjoy listening to stories, especially at a listening center with their own wireless headphones and books.
Traditionally, kids have listened to a story read aloud to them; however, they have not had the chance to hear it multiple times. The wireless headphones would make it easy for the kids to use and enjoy stories read to them.
