I teach at an amazing, diverse school where my students love math and science experiments. Many of my students were directly affected by Hurricane Harvey and flooding. Our school was also affected. We have survived and thrived in spite of our struggles, and this shows our strong spirit and determination. The school that I teach at has many different types of students who each come from very different walks of life. Half of the students come from a disadvantaged background. Not all of them have the same opportunities that countless other kids have. They deserve the best we can offer them, and I want to provide that for them. They are kind, caring, intelligent, and excited to learn and explore.
They are the future, so let's set them up for success.
My Project
Hands-on learning in a cozy space creates lifelong math enthusiasts. Did you love to sit and do worksheets when you were in school? Neither do my students! We need flexible seats, math games, and materials for interactive stations.
My students love to do interactive stations.
It is their favorite time of the day. We will use the math games and activities to learn in a fun and developmentally appropriate way! They will love the Math Activity Cards and the math games will help them in small groups/stations enhance their learning experience and strengthen their knowledge on the subject taught. The Building Bricks Place Value Problem Solving Kit can help students learn in a fun way.
Second graders are young and some of them are unable to sit for a long period of times and need flexible seating. They will use the adjustable table and the flexible seats to move while still learning. What a blessing to be comfortable in their learning environment. Wiggling is allowed! Students need to get their wiggles out so they can focus. Flex-Space Wobble Cushions and chairs are a must!
Critical thinking is the most difficult thing to teach. I need specific games to help the kids succeed. The comparing game, math addition game, problem solving game will help them learn while making it fun. The Steam activity will help my higher students to use critical thinking to solve problems.
