My students need more science and math resources which will create more opportunities to learn.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Skoff's classroom raised $606

My Students
My second grade students are from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Just over 50% of my school receives free and reduced lunch. There is an increasingly high percentage of English as a second language learners at my school.
The students in my classroom have limited opportunities to learn outside of the classroom.
By enhancing my classroom with stimulating and engaging methods of learning; my students will be better prepared for various life experiences and have a deeper understanding, importance, need, and thirst for education.
My Project
The science resources that my district provides for instruction are outdated. Therefore, I am requesting nonfiction science read-alongs for my classroom listening center. These books will correlate to the reading and writing units I will be teaching on nonfiction. I am also requesting science file folder games to match the lessons and state standards. The file folder games will be used for independent learning and will aid in the mastery of the current science unit of study.
Nonfiction texts and materials are always of high interest for children; and therefore create opportunities to improve overall fluency and comprehension.
As we know, science and math go together. In addition to the science materials, I am requesting math file games for my students to work on during math centers. These games will correlate to the state standards and further build upon their math skills. The "Solve, Flip, Check" activities will also be used as a math center resource and independent practice to further create opportunities to reteach and reinforce math skills. Finally, the magnetic number chart will be used in both whole group and small group settings to provide my students with the addition/subtraction strategy of using a number chart to add and subtract fluently.
