This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember being a child full of curiosity and the passion to investigate? Well, I am lucky enough to rediscover this joy each day in first grade. Scholastic News is an amazing resource to engage young students in current events, Science, and Social Studies issues that my students would love!

Our wonderful school turns 100 years old this year and sits on a historical harbor in Maui.

My students are rambunctious, curious, honest little beings that want to be the best they can be. I have mostly boys which means we are moving and grooving most of the day. I feel lucky to be a part of these students' lives and such a historically rich school.

My Project

Students will use Scholastic News as a way to integrate Science and Social Studies into our curriculum. It is a great way to for students to get informative information while using reading strategies such as close reading. This tool will help students learn how to read an article and answer questions about what they read, which is a skill they will carry with them through out their educational career.

Scholastic News will keep students excited about reading and give them new material to practice their reading skills.

Scholastic News will also give students an opportunity to learn more about what is going on in the world in a kid friendly.
