Help me give my students lots of choices for their independent reading. I feel very strongly about giving students the opportunity to self-select their books.

My Project

Your generosity will help to build our classroom library. Some of these books will replace some oldies, but goodies like the Percy Jackson series. Others, like the Truly Devious series will provide the opportunity for students to experience new authors. Some of the books will help our Reading Olympics team members read all the books on the list.

Student choice is so important!

All the books read by students this year for my class are selected by them. There are very few requirements. My classes include all ranges of abilities and interests. That's why it's so important to have a wide range of books from which they can choose. Jason Reynolds is an author they all read last year as part of another reading class and enjoyed, so I want to continue this by having his track series available.

My goals for these students is to encourage them to find that one book that sparks their interest and turns them into readers. If they are already readers, I want to encourage them to broaden their horizons and try something new. Having a variety of books at their disposal will help me with this.
