My Students

In my fifth grade classroom, the students are challenged to think and to learn in a variety of ways each day. Our fifth grade serves 70 amazing students, many of which are on free or reduced lunch. I work at a low income school where the students come from a variety of homes and circumstances. No matter their background though, each child comes with an excitement and energy for learning. At my school our goal is to not only teach the students but to make sure they have everything they need to be successful.

My Project

These books will be extremely helpful for my students to have access to. The students will use the books daily to learn to enjoy reading books from a variety of genres. The books will also be used as read aloud books to the students. I read aloud chapter books each month to help teach different reading strategies and how to use these strategies as the students read any text. Being able to read the texts aloud and model the strategies, makes it easier for the students to understand and become comfortable with the strategies.

Having these books will help my students gain the essential strategies they need to dive deeper into their chosen texts to practice point of view.

It will also give them the comprehension skills they need to succeed in junior high and high school.
