My Students

My kids are craving new and innovative ways to learn. We love reading and listening to stories. In our centers we are hoping to open another avenue for them to continue to learn about the joy that comes with reading.

My students are 2nd graders who live in a rural community.

They come from different backgrounds and some have moved around a lot. They are enthusiastic, happy and charismatic kids! My school is a title 1 school and we work to reach the needs of every student in our building. My class is beyond active, we love to learn through activities and exploration. When they come to school, it's an opportunity to put their worries behind them and to have a chance to make discoveries.

My Project

My students will use the iPod touches throughout the day in our listening center during our reading rotations. I have acquired many audiobooks and am hoping to create a center where they can get their hands on technology while at the same time they are able to hold and listen to a book be read to them. This will help them hear voice within stories as well as work on their comprehension skills while listening and reviewing the story being read to them. The iPods will also be a resource within our classroom where they can get on reading, math and science apps to reinforce what we are learning in class.

This project will make a difference in my classroom by giving my students a chance to explore books independently while I'm working with various reading groups.

This will give them the chance to listen to various genres and help them to become more fluent readers and give them the motivation to want to read. A lot of my students don't get read to at home, this is a chance for them to listen to stories that aren't always read to by their teacher.
