We Love Literacy! Help Provide Just Right Books.

My students need a library of leveled books to read independently during reader's workshop in order to develop a love of literacy & essential independent reading skills.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Jenkins's classroom raised $500

My Students

Remember the first time you picked up a book you actually wanted to read? Help my students find books that they love, too! A classroom library with a wide variety of texts (fiction and non-fiction) on a variety of grade levels is essential for developing strong readers who love learning.

My students identify as the class of 2021-- because that is the year they will graduate from college!

Shorter term, we're working to grow 2 years, on average, in reading level this year so that they will be prepared for the best high schools (and later colleges). My 6th graders are energetic, enthusiastic, and excited to explore a variety of books as they become voracious readers.

My Project

I'm requesting a variety of books on 4th, 5th, and 6th grade reading levels. Students come to my school reading, on average, two years below grade level. Having books that will interest them that are at their independent reading level is essential to helping them catch up to their counterparts in wealthier communities. We will use these books for independent reading times during school, during both reading class and our school-wide DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) period. Students will also be allowed to check books out so they can continue reading at home each night.

By helping to fund this project, you exponentially increasing the chance that a student in my class will discover a book he/she can fall in love with, and through this book develop the love of reading that will propel his/her reading growth in 6th grade and beyond.
