Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from rich cultural and linguistic backgrounds. They are passionate learners! The majority of my students come from low-income households, and for many of my students, English is not their home language. They should be able to have all the resources and materials that students in more affluent schools get with ease. I want my students to thrive and achieve greatness, supported by literacy and a passion for learning! Books, and literacy, broaden our world views in ways that nothing else can, please help me give this experience to my students!
My Project
Literacy is a key that unlocks so many doors in this world! The importance of books and literacy simply cannot be overstated! So much of what we do in non-ELA subjects, such as science, math, social studies, and art engage students in using literacy skills.
These books will help me facilitate interactive read-alouds, reader’s workshop, writer’s workshop, and shared reading exercises.
Culturally relevant and engaging books will help my students see themselves in texts and help them develop their own sense of identity and importance in the world. I have a deep love of books and I want to share that with my students through a well-curated classroom library!
