My students need a variety of enriching language arts materials. They eagerly explore our diverse library of children's books and LOVE learning about letter sounds, writing, and reading. Please help us expand our collection!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our classroom serves a highly diverse group of children with a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. Our school is located in Milwaukee's central city in a neighborhood that has experienced its share of challenges over the years.
Despite the many setbacks the community has faced, our neighborhood has a great deal of potential stemming from the collective strength, determination, and hope that we all share for the next generation of leaders.
We have come together to form a beautiful community of joyful, curious, and compassionate learners.
Our school seeks to serve children of all abilities by providing a high-quality public Montessori program. In our school, you will see children of all ability levels learning side-by-side, each child progressing at his or her own pace. Currently, about 50% of the children in my classroom have learning differences, including a variety of physical, neurological, and speech disabilities. At our school, we believe in best-practice approaches to learning. We follow each child on his or her personal learning journey and adapt instruction to accommodate different learning styles and ability levels. I feel truly honored to work with such an amazing group of children, who are full of love, compassion, and enthusiasm.
My Project
I have the honor of working with a wonderful group of young learners who are fascinated by the power of language! These amazing students come to school eager to start their day, engage in challenging work, and learn new skills and concepts.
It's truly amazing to watch my students grow and develop during this delicate and miraculous period of human development.
Young children naturally want to explore the the world around them and refine their senses and abilities. Language development "explodes" during the first 6 years of life, when children begin to listen, talk, write, and read. To aid children in this process at school, we model the use and enjoyment of rich and creative language, and we provide specific instruction on language concepts related to writing and reading.
The materials I have carefully selected for this project will allow my students to have more access to learning materials that support early writing skills as well as books that are designed for their specific ability levels . My students will joyfully explore these materials as they continue on their individual journeys of language development. The gift of reading is one that carries on for many generations.
