My Project

One thing we do a ton in kindergarten is read! Each day we spend time sitting together and enjoying a good book. Book choice is important and reflects what we are learning, what we need to revisit, the season, and what the interests are of the children.

When literature matches the child's interest, either in subject area or author, the child will be more engaged and will seek out similar books.

Some books we have loved are anything by Jory John, like The Smart Cookie and The Bad Seed. They are such fun silly books, and they teach great lessons to help us become better members of our class and community. The Sour Grape is his latest book and it has been on our wish list for a while! Please help us expand our library and develop a love for literacy!

Students learn best when they feel empowered to learn. Positive reinforcement and immediate feedback are two extremely effective methods that I incorporate in my teaching to encourage student participation, as well as engagement. Over the years, I have discovered that the simple gummy bear works like magic! It's a great way to reward students immediately and also encourages participation in class discussions or lessons.
