First graders are excited about reading! Finding a book to read can be a challenge for a little child if there are too many books in one container. They may want a Clifford book or a fact book about volcanoes and they just can't find it in the big bookcase or container.
It is so exciting to see my students become good readers.
They come into our classroom from every background. Some have never even been read to before Kindergarten, some already know what they like to read. Every child wants to read and loves a good story. Our school is a small, older elementary school where teachers and staff are united to give every child the best learning experience possible. The children are part of this family and help and encourage each other.
My Project
Book holders for our classroom library will help the students self-select books they are interested in reading. They will be able to recommend a book to a friend and show them where they can find it in the classroom library. By labeling the books and the container the children can learn to keep the books organized. We will be able to access a container of a certain type of book for a class read and share activity. If our theme is about animals or ecology or fairy tales the books will be easily accessible. Our school has a computer reading program that helps increase comprehension. Organizing the books, and labeling them with the reading level will help the children access this great learning resource. Some of my children have taken over 100 comprehension tests on the program. They love it! Imagine what they could do if our classroom books were easier for them to locate.
Please help us get the containers to make our classroom library more organized.
It will be one step closer to putting a book in the child's hand. As they read it, it will be from their hand to their mind, and from their mind, books will open up all the possibilities the world holds for them.
