Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is in the heart of Brooklyn, NY. It is a brand new school with a load of potential. The school includes students from pre-k to kindergarten, and it is a melting pot of children from all around the world. PS 938 is in a high poverty area, and about ninety-five percent of the students in the school receive free lunch. There are fifteen, energetic, three and four-year-old children in my class but there are not a lot of funds to enrich these students' education because of the budget cuts. Although our families give us support, they can't always help out financially.

My Project

This year I started teaching in a brand new school in a brand new grade and although the classroom is beautiful it is missing some of the most essential tools needed for teaching and learning. We have no books!

The love of books is contagious.

We spread it like wildfire from one to the other, and I truly believe that one day the entire world will be ignited with this love.Pre-K teachers are in an enviable position, for they have the ability to share this love with young, eager, excited children who may not have had the opportunity to discover it on their own. Natural curiosities and quickly expanding brains make children ravenous for new and exciting things. They love stories and poems and songs and informational text. They WANT to learn. How perfect, then, that books can provide all of these things and more! Please help provide my students with these amazing books to help them learn to love reading.
