We Love Books!

My students need copies of Island: Shipwreck. These copies will be used both in my Read 180 classes and during a summer program we run for incoming seventh graders who need extra support.

My Students

My students are some of the funniest, smartest, strongest kids I have ever met. Some of my students are economically disadvantaged while others come from more affluent circumstances. Our community is filled with freshly built homes, condos, apartments, and old ranches that have been around for decades. Some of my students come from new elementary schools while a few come from a one room schoolhouse that is still used by our district. To say that they come from diverse backgrounds would be an understatement.

My students teach me new things every day.

It is a joy to see them grasp new concepts, stretch their thinking, and find solace in the literary connections we make.

My Project

These books will make a huge difference in the level of student engagement in my classroom. Having their own copy of the book and getting to listen to an audio book version will allow students to access this text in many different ways which increases their motivation and comprehension.

Additionally, when each student has their own book, they feel more ownership.

This is particularly important for the incoming seventh grade students who will use these books this summer. We want to make sure they feel welcome and get to learn in an environment with ample supplies. These books will go a long way to building a positive atmosphere at our school!
