Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our classroom needs new books because stories like Cat Kid, the Pigeon books, and Elephant & Piggie don’t just teach kids to read — they invite joy, curiosity, and confident voices into our room. These books sparkle with humor and simple language that help beginning readers feel proud and capable; a child who can finish a whole book beams in a way no worksheet can match. The characters model friendship, frustration, perseverance, and laughter, giving children gentle ways to talk about feelings and to practice empathy. New picture and early-reader books also broaden our classroom world: every child deserves to find a character who makes them giggle, think, or say “me too.” Replacing worn, limited selections with fresh, diverse titles will boost engagement, improve fluency, and turn independent reading time into moments of genuine connection. Can we add these books so every student gets a chance to fall in love with reading?
