My Students

"If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn" -Ignacio Estrada. I apply this thought daily in my classroom. My students are faced with the challenge of being unique learners. As a special educator, I am tasked with using whatever will motivate them to learn especially during this unprecedented time of COVID.

My students are children with varying abilities and challenges, ranging from moderate speech & language needs, to health & mobility impairments, to autism.

My goal is to give my students as many opportunities to learn and express themselves through art. My students are in a Preschool Special Education class which serves ages 3-5, they attend an early intervention preschool program on a public school campus, in Southern Ca. Our district has provided us materials to use in the classroom but my goal is to be able to send home Art supplies during this time of COVID19, things my students are familiar with that will still expand their learning and social emotional development through art.

My Project

As you all know we will be starting the new school year online. Unfortunately, most of the families I work with do not have the resources at home to help their children succeed and complete play-based projects. Having access to arts and crafts supplies, dot markers, activity books, scissors and foam shapes will allow my students to be creative while developing their art and fine motor skills.

My project will help my students receive the materials that we use in the classroom but they do not have at home.

Having access to this material will also take of the financial burdens off their parents.

These supplies will give my students access to resources that they would typically have in our classrooms. My students need one-on-one and hands-on teaching and through distance learning their parents have had to take over the job of teaching their children with the little resources they have at home. I would like to provide all my students with art supplies they can use at home. This will help their parents have as many resources as they can while we work together to give their children the best distance learning education possible.
