Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are beautiful, hardworking kids that are eager to learn and try their best to be successful in the class. They come to school with an open mind that is ready to learn. They come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and don't have the means to purchase all the resources needed in a classroom.
As a second grade teacher for general education and special education students in a low-income/high poverty school district, I know my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.
Our school is in a low income area and is largely populated by ESL students. Our students range in levels from the most struggling to the highest achieving. They are supportive of one another and are always looking to better themselves. They are truly a wonderful group who often teach us lessons in acceptance and friendship.
My Project
Sight Words are an essential and important part of learning to read. Sight words are freq occurring words that can not be sounded out phonetically. Children need to learn these words by sight. The sight words activities and games will help my kids practice these critical words in a fun and unique way.
My children will use sight words games and activities every morning during word play.
They will use the paint to make letters and words. They will also use the Clay to mold out letters. This activity is good also help them with their sensory and motor skills. All of this resources will help them learn essential words they need to be productive children.
These games will be another tool in my toolbox for teaching sight words. This will help me to keep the children entertained and engaged throughout each sight work activities.
