I teach 1st graders at a public school in an urban setting. My students come from a very diverse population. Both economic and racial diversity as well as family diversity. My school also is an inclusion school. Every class has a student with special needs. It's a wonderful place.
With the recent budget cuts we have lost our art teacher. She would come once a week and we would have great lessons in arts and crafts. The children work so hard all week learning to read and write and count. So on Friday we would have a special art project. Now, with the loss of our art teacher we have lost that component of important enrichment.
With the help of donorschoose I can bring arts and crafts to my classroom. I am asking for art paper and all kinds of fun crafts as well as a paper center to keep things organized. I am hoping to create art centers for my students.
