This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a English Language Arts special education teacher. My classroom is in desperate need of ink for our classroom printer. My students would really benefit from being able to print out final projects and take pride in their work.
My students are classified as physically, learning disabled or emotionally disturbed.
On top of the special education classification, they face insurmountable obstacles. Some live in shelters, others have parents who are incarcerated, siblings in gangs, etc. Often they are stressed and frustrated with their environment. With that said, their families have no money to invest in technology in their homes which leaves school the only source for exposure. Under the new common core standards rolling out nation wide, teachers are expected to use technology in order to create 21st century thinkers and learners.
My Project
Unfortunately, due to the budget cuts schools have faced, teachers in my school are no longer being supplied with printer ink. For an ELA class, toner is a necessary element for success. Many of my students are many years below grade level and are "turned-off" to writing due to their lack of skills. If they use the computers, they can benefit from the spell and grammar check functions. Ink is necessary to print out their final work. I try my best to make lessons interactive and engaging with the use of technology but some items still need to be printed out such as final reports, essays, letters home to parents, progress reports etc. I am requesting 2 toner cartridges for our classroom printer in order to accomplish these tasks and last through the year.
Providing my classes with printer ink would give them opportunities to make use of the spell and grammar check functions and ease their frustrations for writing.
Your help is desperately needed to help our room function properly. Thank you in advance for supporting education.
