My Students

I teach fifth grade at a K-8 elementary school in the Sierra Nevada foothills. My students are growing up together in a small, tight-knit community school. I have diverse learning needs throughout my classroom, but all of my students are eager, enthusiastic, and innovative despite our low socioeconomic and Title I status. They enjoy collaborative, hands-on projects and working together to accomplish a goal.

This is my third year teaching fifth grade.

I'm excited to have students participate in their growth and education throughout the year.

My Project

My students struggle to stay active and get enough sleep during the rainy winter months.

My students need activity trackers and playground balls.

The students will learn to set physical activity goals and monitor their movement to achieve a healthy lifestyle. These trackers will help students get accurate data on their daily physical movement. It will also teach them to check heart rates and make sure to get enough sleep. We will then use this data to set individual and realistic goals toward increasing movement in a healthy way.

Students will use the playground balls to play four square or playground games when we are restricted to the blacktop on rainy days.
