My Students
I teach full day kindergarten at a high poverty school in a suburb of Denver, Colorado. We are considered a Title I school. The class is a highly diverse community with over half that speak a second language at home. I have a wide range of learners and we differentiate according to individual needs. My class consists mostly of boys. My students look forward to learning in engaging and meaningful ways.
These kids are always ready to learn.
They are kind and thoughtful while some are still learning social skills. With the constant structure and routine at school, it provides them with a safe environment and routine they thrive for. The students excel in their work and are ready to learn and be kind the moment they walk in the classroom.
My Project
Students need some type of movement at least every 20 minutes through out the day to refresh their thinking and to refocus on their learning. When the blood is flowing in the brain, the students can focus better and be more successful in the classroom.
Recess is a great way to have that unstructured movement and to be a kid to play.
We have a playground and only a few balls to share for over 100 kids at one time. I would like to have more choices for outside play and for kids to be able to have the opportunity to work with others on playing games and to share.
There are moments in the day we need to do the movement inside the classroom, called movement breaks. These are also nice opportunities to have the class participate and build connections with their classmates.
