My students need seating opportunities that reflect the 21st Century learners they are. They need an opportunity to move and choose places to work that allow them to collaborate and work comfortably.
I teach third grade students at a Title I school. My students come to school from different backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses, and challenges and all do their best to overcome their obstacles to work hard and set themselves up for a successful future.
My students are highly energetic, creative, and collaborative: true 21st Century Learners.
When they are at school we work to meet all of their needs through academic support, behavioral support, and programs to help them get breakfast, lunch, and some food for the weekends. Through these supports we try to meet their needs so they can focus on their personal and academic development when at school.
My Project
My students come from different backgrounds, but they are all 21st Century learners who need a classroom that reflects that. My students embody 21st Century learners who are innovative, creative, and collaborative but our furniture gets in the way!
When we think about our favorite places to work, we most likely don't think of a traditional classroom.
We think about places that we are comfortable, have the supplies we need, and allow us to work by our partners. This project would significantly help my students be able to do their best while forgetting about the rest of the challenges they might have outside of school. Each of the seating options provides different levels for the students to work at while providing movement for them, too. These seats also will allow for the students to pull together different tables to work and collaborate with their classmates.
