My 4th grade class is located in a small school district. We are a Title One school and face many challenges due to a decreasing budget.
My students come to me with various backgrounds but with the desire to learn, create and explore.
My goal is to always provide them with what they need and even more if possible. I love seeing the joy on their faces as we learn new things every day. They are the reason I teach.
My Project
My students are constantly asking to move and get out of their seats! Last year we implemented a 4 day school week which mean students are in their seats over 9 hours a day. I brought in some yoga balls to encourage movement and to increase focus and they loved it. With only 5 yoga balls, students were begging me to add more as they felt it really helped improve their day. Seeing their excitement in the different seating choices has inspired me to add more. I believe these Bouncy Bands will be a great addition to our classroom for students to be able to help move in the chairs we already have. The bands allow them to rest their legs and fidget if they desire. The standing desk will provide options for those students who need to get up and move without being confined to their seats.
A child's ability to focus in class is key to their success.
With the addition of the small flexible seating choices we have had, I have noticed how much my students have gained from being able to move. There has been research that shows how flexible seating encourages movement, helps build up core strength and increases focus, while keeping kids active during a long school day.
I plan to use these materials by giving my students the choice they need to have success in the classroom. Keeping the active in healthy while learning is my goal and I can't wait to accomplish that goal!
