Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
There is nothing more special than having the pleasure of teaching 5 year old students who love to laugh, learn, explore and move. My students walk in our classroom everyday ready for a new adventure. They are ready to be scientists, explorers, athletes, mathematicians, and most of all family.
I work at a school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
My school is located in a very rural community. We have a lot of students who come from parents who are very hard-working, but receive a very low household income. Many of them are also being raised in single parent households.I may not be able to control their home lives, but I do my best to control that they experience applicable learning that allows them to reach past their potential they see for themselves. I hope to inspire our earliest of learners to continue on the path that leads them to academic success that aids them in following their dreams and ambitions.
My Project
I am going into my second year of teaching. All it took was one year for me to realize I am so lucky to have the best job in the world: being a Kindergarten Teacher. I get to spend most of my time with some of the coolest, smartest, and kindest kids there are. I know it is my job to teach them important life and academic skills that will aid them in their success. But what I didn't know was how much they were going to teach me. A few things they taught me about were (brutal) honesty, the beauty in imperfection, and the importance of movement in the classroom.
Flexible seating give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking.
I believe that flexible seating in my classroom will create a more engaged, innovative and active learner. As a 23 year old, I can barely sit in the same seat for long. I believe that young learners need the opportunity to get up and move. Why not incorporate that into their learning? Their ability to choose also shows them that they are responsible for their own learning.
All of the recourses in my cart would be a seating option in my classroom for my students. Stability balls, wobble chairs, bouncy bands, bean bags, and balance discs will create a more engaging and creative learning environment for my students. I need your help so students can take their learning into their own hands, or should I say, their own seat!
