This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Music and movement go hand in hand in the elementary music classroom. We spend time playing instruments and singing, but we do a lot of movement through dancing, body percussion and games. The items in this project will help encourage students to move and give more options for creative movement in our class.

When a child puts music in their body by moving, they are internalizing concepts such as steady beat, rhythm and emotion in music.

Physical movement also provides a different style of learning; a style many students learn better through.

Agility rings can help students physically lock in with steady beat, learn meter or understand the micro and macro beat. Stretchy bands and parachutes can be used for understanding form, learning opposites, such as high/low or fast/slow or playing music games to support singing in tune and team work. Stepping stones and ribbons can help with learning solfege (do, re, mi, etc), can be used as a demonstration of melodic contour or could provide a creative improvisation outlet.
