Our school is very unique in its design. Students are challenged by our reading program that allows the students to learn at their level and to be pushed to go further and further in their abilities. Our school has a one acre garden that the students are able to plant, care for, and eat the vegetables that they grow themselves!
We have the coolest school in Northwest Ohio!
I have my students for two years. I start with them in third grade and take them all the way through fourth grade. Some students I teach again for reading for fifth and sixth grade. I really get to know the student when doing this. Science is a favorite of all my students. I am a firm believer in bringing science alive in the classroom. I do everything I can to develop the science skills of my students through hands on activities in the garden to STEM activities in the classroom.
My Project
We would like a large amount of Daffodill bulbs to plant under a huge oak tree so that we can see them bloom in the spring time. Our class learns about how plants grow in third and fourth grade. We would like to go outside this fall and naturalize (plant them in grassy areas) the bulbs so that we can see them coming up in the spring.
Naturalizing bulbs so that they come up in the spring is such a wonderful surprise for the students.
The location is where all of the students can see in the garden! We have a large community garden for the students to work in and this is a perfect activity for our students to do.
The bulbs will be planted in the fall and the students will learn about the bulb and how the plant grows from the bulb. Soon after the bulbs are blooming, they will learn about seeds and how we can grow them under grow lights in our school. Lastly, we also grow plants and seeds in our garden in the spring.
