My Students

My average day in the classroom begins when I welcome my eighth-grade students including regular students, students receiving special education services, and students with emotional needs. I want all of my students to succeed.

My students like to participate in the school drama club, which is why I sponsor this activity.

I teach in a large, diverse, K-8 high-poverty school in an urban area that experiences crime. Our school receives Title I funding, and the entire school is eligible for free breakfast and lunch. The students come to school eager to learn, from various living situations such as single-parent homes, foster homes, homeless shelters, or extended family living.

My students are the most eccentric, funny, and smart kids you would ever want to meet. Skill levels and overall levels of support vary by student. One thing that is universal is our desire to work together. On the first day of school, we identified ourselves as a family. We are a family that takes care of one another and looks out for one another; this is what we do. We work together to accomplish our goals.

My Project

The past two years have been challenging for teachers, students, parents...really everyone. Yet, the past month has proven to be all of that rolled into one. We need to find reasons to remember to smile in class everyday, even when things are difficult and stressful.

Most importantly, our classroom needs additional cleaning supplies to keep our room sanitary for all of our students and teachers.

Items like cleaning spray, disinfecting wipes, trash bags, fresh scents and more will allow for a clean environment to exist. Also, to keep all of our supplies in a neat location, the hampers will allow for keeping all of our cleaning supplies together and organized, while the charging cubes will allow for more devices to be charged around the classroom.

Lastly, the classroom signage and command hooks will allow for the valuable reminders to be displayed properly. We need those daily reminders that joy can be found in anything. Whether it is through a sign hanging in the front of the room, photos of students on display, proud work created and completed by students hanging on walls or a silly t-shirt proudly on display to bring joy to students and teachers...everyone needs to remember to stay safe and smile!
