Most of my students come from single parent homes with low-income and high poverty. My students face a multitude of challenges in their neighborhoods and homes. However, our classroom is one where my students know that they are safe and can enjoy being a kid.
My students are eager to learn.
They enjoy talking about what they've learned each day. They encourage each others' accomplishments with a round of claps and encouraging words. I look forward to each new day of learning with them.
My Project
Having a mailbox storage unit in our classroom will benefit my students in several ways. Having one will give time back to my students that is lost during the time that it takes to pass out information to my students daily. The mailbox will be the one place for my students to obtain parent letters, graded assignments, and homework assignments. It will also be the place where they will turn in assignments and other things to me; thus beneficial to both the students and the teacher.
Having a mailbox system in our classroom will increase learning time for my students.
There is a lot of time lost passing out papers to students. This time will now be used to continue instruction and time on task for my students. It has been aggravating when I have had to stop what we were working on in class to pass back student graded papers. Yet, it is important for the students and their parents to see how they are doing in class from their work that has been graded. I look forward to having the additional time to aid in my students' learning.
