My Students

Welcome to our kindergarten classroom. We are made up of 23 students; 11 boys and 12 girls.

We Love Reading!

We are from Cleveland, Ohio and 100% of us are on free and reduced lunch. Our classroom is just one of the many that make up the 2nd largest school district in Ohio. Some of us are living in shelters, some of us are living with only one parent, and some of us are living with foster parents.

Despite all of this - We come to school eager and ready to learn new and exciting things through the daily joy of reading books.

My Project

My Kinder Stars come to school every year with hope in their eyes and a desire to learn in their hearts. If my project is funded, I can donate much of my current library (which is very outdated and old) to my students so that they can have books at home to read (which many do not) and at the same time replace them with current quality mentor texts, like No, David and Noisy Nora, for my reading and writing curriculum. I always learn about great books for kindergarten during my Professional Development sessions, but lack the money to buy them. As a Cleveland teacher, I must spend my own money on so many other necessities that are not provided (pencils, dry erase markers, folders, tissues, paper, glue, etc) that I have little left to spend on books. I am completing my first Donor's Choose project with the same hope that my Kinder Stars come to school with.
