My students need help managing their emotions so they feel safe and learn. We need the Feeling Buddies Self Regulation Curriculum and Shubert Books to achieve this goal.

My Students

I am a school counselor on a military base where children face the reality of their parents leaving on deployment exercises on a regular basis. With their home environments in constant change, they find themselves emotionally exhausted. Many are in need of help with managing their emotions.

I work with grades kindergarten through 6th.

Many don't even know what their feelings are much less how to manage them. These challenges cause our students to lack the social emotional skills they need to feel safe and ultimately learn. When kids don't feel safe, they are unable to learn. This is a researched fact.

My Project

The Feeling Buddies Self Regulation: Managing Emotional Mayhem curriculum by Dr. Becky Bailey teaches the self regulation process. These lovable feelings buddies teach kids emotional self regulation through play and lessons taught in the school environment. Kids learn how to understand their emotions, identify how they feel, and how to handle them. The ultimate goal is to learn life-long problem solving skills for handling their emotions.

Managing emotions is a requirement for feeling safe and ultimately learning.

Our kids are our futures. We need them to be able to manage their emotions and become our leaders of tomorrow.
