Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"I am a kid at hope. I am talented, smart, and capable of success. I have dreams for the future, and I will climb to reach those goals and dreams everyday." This is the pledge my students recite every morning at my school, with the ultimate goal of internalizing the words and believing them with no exceptions!

The best part of my job is watching my students from various backgrounds and cultural experiences stretch their identities to become the best citizens they can be; both inside and outside of the classroom.

My students attend a school that is specifically designed to service students with emotional and behavioral disabilities who are working on transitioning back to their home schools.

Academic performance is a priority at my school; however, as an educator, I also get the privilege of establishing and maintaining positive, interactive, and hope-filled relationships with every student who walks through the gate. My students are what makes my class a family - I am so blessed to have them!

My Project

The sensory light table materials would give my students opportunities to practice using their coping skills to handle their sensory needs, all while remaining in class. The materials would give students endless possibilities to put their creative energies to work!

My students were blessed with a fully-funded DonorsChoose project in order to get the light table; now we are asking for the materials that are made specifically for the light table so that it maximizes its use and effectiveness.

The dominoes would allow my students to work together and refine their social skills; while the counters and gems are useful manipulatives to aid with anxiety and uneasiness that my students with emotional disabilities face. They are working hard on practicing their coping skills and the light table materials would make their efforts so much more enriched and valuable.
