Our kids need basic learning supplies in order to thrive - my co-teacher and I here to champion their cause!
We teach an amazing group of 6th & 7th graders from a low-income part of Far Rockaway, Queens (which was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy and is still rebuilding). This year, our rising 6th & 7th graders come to us with a range of special needs - both academic and personal. Coupled with limited financial resources, it is a struggle for our kids and their families to purchase the necessary school supplies and materials they need to do their best. It is our mission to ensure each child begins this school year armed and ready to work hard and reach their goals!
My Project
Our middle schoolers desperately need basic learning supplies such as color-coded notebooks and folders, pencils, post-it notes, markers, paper, etc. to help them engage in the learning process and stay organized. We need two classroom carpets (one for each room) to create a shared space where our students can come together and either begin a lesson, read independently, or work with a partner - all of which helps us build a stronger classroom community! Each and every item on our list will ensure our students are armed and ready to tackle the rigorous year ahead - with your help, our bright and deserving scholars will be reading, writing, listening, speaking, & thinking their way towards a bright future in no time!
