Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is nestled in a low socioeconomic area in the city of Providence, Rhode Island. All of the students in the school receive free breakfast and lunch.

I pride myself in differentiating my teaching so that I teach students on their independent levels rather than the classroom as a whole.

I strive to have a community-based classroom that is run as a family. My room is filled to a capacity of 26. It’s a safe space where we support one another as we work toward a common goal of mastery, no matter where we begin our journey. Students talk to each other to share their thoughts and strategies while tackling lessons. They congratulate each other on their successes and know how to encourage those when they need it.

My Project

These leveled books will support my students tremendously as they parallel my differentiated small group instruction. As I pride myself on teaching to the child, and not to the class, more supplies are needed to meet their wide range in levels.

My classroom which is made up of 26 second-graders has a reading range from Emerging Kindergarten to Mid Third Grade.

These books will give all of my students the opportunity to have a book in their hand regardless of their reading level.

When students have the ability to go into a bin and choose an independent book on their reading level it sparks a light in them that they are on their way to reading success.
