This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My kinder cuties are super excited when it comes to art. Coming from diverse backgrounds (both socio-economically , and culturally) they bring a lot of varied experiences to our room.
One thing my kinder kids have in common, is their love of art.
For my shy students art allows them to express themselves in others ways. For my second language learners, art gives them a common topic to talk and write about. My students that struggle academically, they have one area where thy can shine!
For me, it gives my inner art teacher a chance to spread her wings and share her passion with others. Without these items I would have to spend hours cleaning up, cutting into their time creating.
The hearts we painted for Valentine's day, made a mess of the whole room, paper was everywhere drying, tables were covered with tubs of partially used paints. After we were through one of my sweeties said it was her best day ever! Then she apologized for the mess we made in our classroom, and asked when would we paint next? How can you say no to someone so sweet?
My Project
With 25 students, it's hard to manage (the mixing, sharing and storage for) the paint for our art projects. My kinder cuties are trying hard to become great artists but they are messy and sometimes spill the paint. With tempera cakes we'll be able to quickly set up for a project and clean up will be a snap as well, giving us maximum time to be creative.
We have only been able to paint two major pieces this year because we have such limited drying space.
I asked my kinder cuties if they could would they like to paint more frequently, it was, of course, a resounding YES!!!
The drying rack will free up our tables (I currently lay the wet paintings all over the room, including the student desks) so we can go right back to working on other math and other content areas. With these two tools we can maximize our learning time and still create amazing art.
