Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a group of inquisitive seventh and eighth graders. They are scholars that simply need the basic resources needed to stimulate their creative minds.

For the most part, they derive from hard-working families and have learned to balance their rigorous academic work while tackling the challenges of living in a community plagued by the ills of poverty.

My students, regardless of the issues they face on a daily basis, have goals, drive, and most importantly they are hungry for knowledge. They posses creative minds and free spirits that simply need the basic requirements to create and express themselves.

My Project

This year, we've focused on turning our classroom into a place where creativity and technology drive our daily routines and learning. Students who in September were quiet and shy to share their work are now opening up and blossoming into outspoken thinkers and creators. Their work is not simply visible thought pen and paper. They now create works of art, plays, and presentations that have inevitably supported their reading, writing, and critical thinking skills. These skills will most definitely be useful when they transition on to high school and will prepare them to be college and career ready. Our school, however, lacks the funds to properly equip our classrooms with the basic necessities that support a class like ours. Having access to a printer is fantastic, but only when we have the ink needed to share our work.

Having enough ink to show student work will allow students to gain self confidence.

That means students can demonstrate their learning and skills to the entire learning community: their peers, teachers, staff, parents/guardians, and most importantly be able to feel proud of their creations all while gaining substantial academic knowledge.
