This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I serve a remarkable and unique group of children. Despite many of my them coming from low-income households, they do an incredible job of showing up and being their best at school.
My students are an incredibly hardworking, resilient, and collaborative, and their drive toward defying all odds and accomplishing things that may have once seemed out of reach is what keeps me coming back each and every day.
As a sixth-year math teacher, it has always been my goal to not only make it fun and engaging but also applicable to the real world. In a classroom where mistakes are not only accepted but also encouraged, students learn to challenge each other's thinking, forcing them to think critically about all possible outcomes. My students love to engage in math talk for this reason!
My Project
I am currently fortunate to have 10 class iPads that have proven to be an incredible resource to provide differentiated instruction to my students during small groups. It would be wonderful to add to our growing collection of iPads with two more! There are plenty of fluency apps and online resources that I currently use to help support my students in their grade level math work.
Having reliable headphones and a few more iPads would provide my students with more opportunities to engage in their learning in a quiet and non-disruptive way.
The headphones we currently have are several years old and have served over 300 students over the years and unfortunately need to be replaced. Each week, the student technician "services" the headphones, so that we can ensure they are clean and ready for use for the students the following week.
