My students are from a low-economic background. Most of them receive free or reduced-price lunch. They speak Creole and English. My students are trying very hard to develop their academic skills but need fiber after a physical education class. They need snacks!
The hunger problem that students have, should never happen.
Eating especially when hungry will give them the opportunity to maintain good health and a high quality of life. Being hungry should not be a challenge as they do now.
Food is necessary for survival. Every child needs a supply of nutrients to fuel his or her body and brain in order to grow, develop properly and function effectively. I really expect my students to perform at a high level. They should also be energetic and of course, look and feel good about themselves.
My students eat lunch at 9:50 am every day which is early for them.
By the end of the school day they are famished, especially after exerting themselves on the playground. My students can only develop good motor skills when they are healthy. Please share your snacks with them to encourage learning!
