My Project
A weighted vest provides deep pressure or proprioceptive input which has a calming, organizing effect on the child. As an occupational therapist, I work with students, teachers, and families to determine when a weighted vest should be implemented to help a child function in school. A weighted vest can be worn throughout the day to help the student regulate in the classroom. Many weighted vests are bulky, or students may not like to wear them because they stand out. The OTvest, which is the vest I am requesting today, is a denim vest that looks just like a typical denim vest. The weights are in the shoulders which provides the most optimal form of deep pressure.
