My Students

My students attend a rural school in the shadow of Silicon Valley.
I have developed a literature-based reading program that my students find enjoyable and rewarding. I'm always trying to add new titles and gather feedback from my students in an attempt to boost engagement. My students want graphic novels!
My Project
As part of my literature-based reading program, students participate in book clubs, which we call "literature tribes". The titles in this project will be read by literature tribes and they will focus on the same literary elements as other tribes (character analysis, conflict resolution). I think that adding graphic novels to our list of available selections, will boost engagement and increase reading for pleasure, which is so important at this age. It will also help emerging readers, RSP and ELL students. Graphic novels contain illustrations that help stories come to life in the minds of young (and older!) readers.
I'm also requesting contact paper so that I can protect these books. I'm worried that they will fall apart quickly if I don't strengthen them.
