This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My second grade students have made tremendous growth this year. They have been working hard to read longer books and for longer amounts of time. They have been learning to write longer stories. They are so proud of the great strides they are making.
My school is located in a high-poverty area and is filled with amazing students that face many challenges, both at home and in school.
While they all express an eagerness to learn, my students with special needs experience challenges that make it more difficult for them to reach their fullest potential.
My Project
These special seat cushions are designed to provide sensory input to students with ADHD and sensory processing disorders. While sitting on these cushions, my students with special needs will be able to sit in their seats and read and write for longer periods of time, allowing them to fully demonstrate and practice skills they are learning, along-side their peers.
My classroom currently serves twenty-seven busy and active second-graders.
Having these seat cushions, will enable my students that have sensory or attention challenges to feel comfortable, focused, and productive in their classroom.
