Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are great! They are from a high poverty area with abandoned homes, cars, etc. and yet they make the best of it, they work hard and stay motivated. I need to give them the opportunities children who attend schools with more funding receive, they deserve it!!!
I teach kindergarten in a high poverty area.
I have a class of students whose educations are suffering from the lack of supplies that are unavailable to them. I need to keep my students motivated and engaged at this young age so that they learn to love school and learning. They are so appreciative of anything that they get, but they need to see a larger more benevolent world. This, I know, will allow them to dream bigger dreams.
My Project
I am requesting an assortment of small insects for our current science studies and an assortment of leveled science read-aloud books which correspond with their environmental studies. I hope to use these and a homemade worm composting kit to relate both the study of insects and their importance to our life and environment. The students will learn that insects are more fun to observe and learn from than they are to squash and torture. I also hope to teach them through worm composting, that litter properly dealt with can help us, the environment and the decomposers of our world.
I need your support to turn these little children into the budding environmentalists I know they can be.
My students live in a world of concrete and broken down buildings. They need to understand that in the right environment insects are helpful creatures that deserve our respect. That littering is a big problem, one that some insects can help us solve and that the world is larger and more beautiful than what they may be seeing from their current situation. Please help me make this possible.
