This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember a book you read in high school? Our novels are falling apart and I'm afraid my students will not have the opportunity to experience the classic literature that helped me learn to love reading.
Our school has many students who are from low income families.
I can't ask them to buy their own books because most of these students' families are currently struggling to pay the rent. over half of our student population is receiving free or reduced lunch due to low family income.
My Project
To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite novels to teach. Atticus Finch is one of the greatest heroes of modern literature. Every year my students tell me how much they loved reading the book. Some have even confessed that it was the only time they actually read a book all the way through. The story and characters capture their imagination and inspire the desire to read.
Please help provide a class set of books for our students.
This is a gift that we can use for years to come. This one gift will reach hundreds of kids in a low income area have access to classic literature.
