Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Together my students and I have created a space for their learning to thrive. Every day that my students walk through the door they are eager to start learning new material. Despite personal problems that may arise in my students' lives I have paired up with families to ensure that they have the tools necessary to face those challenges and find solutions. Through reading and writing, my students are transported to another world where they can expand their understanding and help guide each other towards Third-grade behavior.

As a whole we work together to create an environment where are students are set up to succeed.

75% of my students came into second grade reading below grade level which has also impacted their reading and writing. 100% of my students are Latino and 83% of our schools' students come from a low income background. As we are in a small school, funding is also low therefore it is difficult to provide students with the necessary material to aid their learning. In giving students a positive experience academically I hope to teach them that they can conquer any obstacle.

My Project

Since September my students have been storing their writing materials in various places throughout the classroom. This has made our writing time less efficient and more focused on finding misplaced materials. Often times students will spend the bulk of their independent writing time trying to find their writing pieces or pens instead of actually writing. By having individual writing bins students will be able to store their special author pens, writing folders, and extra writing papers in a more organized way.

In our classroom writing is used a tool to share our powerful voice with the world.

That is why your donation will help create an environment where writing is an outlet to let the world know who my students are. Their individual writing bins will store their creativity and writing progress without the stress of losing limited materials. With these writing bins students will have easier access to their writing materials and spend more time writing!
