My Students

This is my first year teaching kindergarten in a small elementary school in Eastern Kentucky. I have 22 students in my class, ages 5-6 years old. We have 12 boys and 11 girls, and they are all unique and amazing! They have a wide variety of interests, backgrounds, and abilities. I love each of them!

Due to Covid, many of my students did not attend preschool or did not get a “typical” preschool experience.

Our classroom incorporates many hands-on activities to keep them engaged and learning.

Albert Einstein said, "Play is the highest form of research." My goal is for the children in my care to receive a well-rounded education. I believe that children at this age learn so much while they are exploring and learning with multi-sensory materials. I want the children in my class to have a positive experience with their first year of school & to become lifelong learners.

My Project

Since this is our first year in our new classroom, many of our storage containers were either rescued from the trash or donated by other teachers. The students access materials (games, art supplies, learning manipulatives, etc.) many times throughout the day, and our containers are showing major signs of wear and tear. Many of them have broken at this point in the year. I would like to give the children safe, clean, sturdy containers that can be color-coded so that they are able to easily locate activities and return them to the correct area without prompting.
