My students are caring, thoughtful, creative and full of excitement for learning. They love to learn and are eager to ask questions to know more. Every day they come to class ready to start the day and engage in hands-on, challenging activities that make them think and apply the skills they are learning to dig deeper to expand their knowledge.
Two-thirds of my Kindergarten students are English language learners.
Many of my students begin school with very little or no English. 80% of our school's population speaks English as their second language and most do not have the support at home to help them with the English language. These students work so hard to understand the language and use it to the best of their ability. All of my students work so hard to make connections and spread their knowledge with one another through partner talks, sharing information at home with families and friends. I love watching for pictures or videos their families share that shows the kids reading, or working at home.
The addition of CanDo stability balls to my classroom will help with my little fidgety Kindergartners who have a hard time finding a comfortable position to sit in and focus on instruction. The CanDo stability balls will allow students to bounce and move a little but keep them focused on the task at hand.
Comfortable seating will take the kids minds off of their chair and be able to focus on the task during small group instruction.
All too often students come back to the small group table and are tangling their chairs with others, pushing them in and out, causing them to make noise, and trying to find a comfortable position. This is distracting them from what our short, guided instruction time is used for.
CanDo stability balls will be a quiet seating option added to my classroom that will help students stay focused and engaged in small group instruction rather than worry about their seat position.
