My students need language and math station manipulatives, like the set of Math Folder Game Libraries and Grab & Play Partner Math Games. These hands-on activities will be used in small groups and independent stations to meet state standards.
I teach a class of enthusiastic, curious first graders. They are always ready to learn something new. I strive daily to make learning more engaging and enjoyable for my class. We have fun learning!
My classroom is like a mini United Nations.
Included in my class are many refugees (6 different languages), special education students, and at-risk students. ALL students enjoy learning. Many of my students are learning english as a second language. Several students have parents who do not speak english. They LOVE learning new words and are proud to use new vocabulary. I have found that my students learn best with hands-on experiences.
My Project
Our classroom schedule provides for both large and small group activities. When not in a teacher-led small group, the students are working independently to build and maintain learned skills. I use hands-on games and activities to introduce new concepts to a small group. Later, the activities and games are placed in independent stations for practice. I also use various leveled activities for one on one tutoring. The reading games will help students with both language development and comprehension. The math practice games will help student meet math standards for first grade.
At this time, our school has no budget to replace or add materials.
Many excited first graders year after year can show wear and tear on games and manipulatives (no matter how careful they are). These new reading and math games will add new enthusiasm and an eagerness to learn more. One of my very favorite things to hear from students is, "Can we play that again?" When I hear this, it reminds me that they are having fun learning. I want this to continue in my classroom. Thank you!
