My Students

In my classroom, we aim to teach students with various disabilities math, reading, language, and social skills.

Students in my class have academic and functional goals which they work to master. Rather than focusing on the class as a whole, we develop a plan to help each individual student achieve mastery. Multiple learning methods are used in my classroom including one-on-one meetings with a teacher, small group learning, using manipulatives, whole group lessons, direct instruction, repetition, and the use of computer programs.

Rather than dwelling on weaknesses, we meet students where they are and build confidence from strengths.

My Project

Our school is a 1:1 school. This means each student is provided with a Chromebook. This Chromebook travels with them throughout the day to their classes. Many assignments are given digitally. While digital assignments are beneficial to the learning of most students, my students do not learn like most students!

The possibilities are endless when an Interactive Whiteboard is introduced into a special needs classroom.

This Interactive Whiteboard will make whole-group instruction much easier and more effective through note taking, highlighting, and examples were done on the board. It will provide a cleaner works space than markers and erasers, which tend to smear. It will allow students with motor issues to be able to work on the computer just like their classmates. Most importantly, student interest and involvement will increase due to the exciting and engaging piece of technology in the classroom.
