The students in my classroom come from a variety of economic and cultural backgrounds. My students are on the autism spectrum and each face their own challenges, however, they each have their own strengths and abilities! My students all have IEP's (Individualized Education Plans). They each have their own set of goals for the year (literacy, writing, math, fine/gross motor, sensory, communication, and daily living). In the classroom, we are working every single day on their goals through large group, small group, and individual instruction. My students also require visual supports to get them through their school day. Being at home, parents are left without these resources.
I have the most amazing students in my class!
They deserve to continue to learn and continue to work on the IEP goals while they are home. It’s so important we continue to address their needs while they are not in the classroom!
My Project
My students and I have been learning to navigate this new normal! Before we left school in March, I was able to create packets and some supports to get through until we returned at the end of April. Unfortunately, we have not been able to return. We are using Google Classroom as our platform, however, the majority of families do not have printers so they are unable to complete activities on paper.
My students deserve to keep learning while they are home.
I am doing everything I can to make sure my students don't regress. I am in the process of printing new packets for them to continue to work on their IEP goals (including fine motor/writing, Math, literacy, etc). I also am printing visual supports to help the families get their child through each day. Morning meeting is such an important part of our day. It's where we talk about how we feel, learn new concepts (calendar, days of the week, counting, letter recognition, etc). I am making mini posters of these concepts for the children! I also am creating an end of the year "memory" book for my students so they can remember all the positive things that happened this year!
My project consists of ink and printer paper to help me complete these learning packets, visual supports, and books! I need laminating paper to laminate the posters and book so the kids don't rip it. Also, I included paper clips to help clip their work and separate each subject (writing, literacy, math, science, social studies, etc). Please help me help my students!
